Over these pages we'll be going into specific tools, their application and what DIY projects can be undertaken with those tools.
Many people ask me what certain tools do things best like whether to use a jigsaw for cutting a kitchen sink out of a worktop, what type of drill bit to use for drilling a ventilation fan in a bathroom and what tools you need for installing interior shutters. That's to name but a few! There are a range of DIY tools which can be used for many jobs and a kind of basic set of tools which are perfect for starting out, your basic tool set. Everyone should have some tools, there are so many people who have asked to borrow a screwdriver, hammer or something really simple, but these type of basic tools don't need to cost a lot, so we'll help you with where to invest your money and what to look out for.
More advanced DIY projects might well need different tools, or specific things like fitting carpets and laying flooring might well warrant the niche tools, but we do not advocate going out and buying every tool you might need for smaller projects as there are some pretty good tool hire companies out there well worth looking at. We also go into some of the simpler applications of tools in our Tools FAQ section so pop on over there for more info.
We are posting a lot of projects and tool applications over time so feel free to bookmark this page and you can even sign up with us to receive notifications of when new info gets put onto the site, but please remember that I am working and sometimes take a while to update or answer queries which come in.
