Q. What is your most used tool for DIY?
A. I knew someone would ask this! I get asked this at least once a week and there’s ben a lot of weeks I tell you! It’s really tough question as it depends to some degree on what you are most interested in. If you like wood, then it will be wood related, if you are into metalwork then no doubt you’ll be having something else. I am not a politician though so I will take a stab at my most used tool being a power drill. Now it has to come with some attachments, give me some concessions will you! Power drills are used a great deal as you can make bore holes, pilot holes, screw drive, add attachments like polishing and sanding discs. There are so many applications for a good quality power drill that it has to be the winner for me! But it was close with a few others to be sure.
Q.Do you by tools second hand?
A. Yes without a doubt I have bought many tools over the years second hand, and many many of them have outlasted the new equivalent ones. I am a fan of car boot sales, and often you will find some real gems of the tool world hidden amongst the brickabrack, as well as dedicated tool sellers. I sometimes consider using sites like Ebay for second hand tools, but as yet have not bought second hand online. There are some good dealers out there online, but I like to feel it in my hand and make sure everything is tip top before parting with my hard earned cash. That’s just me mind, I know people who have found some real second hand bargains online. Just make sure you test a tool or get solid confirmation that any second hand tool is in good working order before you buy it. Cosmetics don’t matter to me, if it looks like it has done some service then all the better. I stopped being precious about DIY tools a long time ago!
